How to Ask God Questions and Get Answers

God desires that all of us come to a fullness of the knowledge of His word and power. So when you ask God questions it is up to you to first to search the scriptures for answers. We should search the scriptures for answers because God has preemptively answered every question about general life and Godliness that you can ever possibly think of.

If you have a question about a person or a specific situation that is not already answered in the bible then you can do these two things:

  1. Ask God for Word of Knowledge on the subject in question.
  2. Ask for Word of Wisdom.

When God gives you Word of Knowledge He will usually immediately follow with what to do with that special knowledge; i.e. Word of Wisdom. But not always. Sometimes God just wants you to know something and not do anything about it. Sometimes He gives you special knowledge without word of wisdom because it would be redundant because you already know what to do.

But remember that if it’s not in the bible already then it is either a new situation… or something that is not for you to know. So don’t be upset at God if He gives you an answer that is not really what you are hoping for. Or even worse yet, the dreaded silent treatment.

God will remain silent for 3 reasons:

  1. It is already answered in the Bible or
  2. The answer is not something for you to know right now, if ever.
  3. You are not ready to receive the answer. Because if you are not ready then God can not give it to you.

So just relax and respect God’s good judgment. Do your homework before asking God something, “Study to show your selves approved…” 2 Timothy 2:15
