Why Does God Allow Pain and Suffering?

Why God Allows Pain and Suffering

Why Does God Allow Pain and Suffering?

Someone wrote to us recently with a heavy heart and asked a burning question. It’s about why we are here and why God lets us go through pain and suffering. I want to share with you the question asked and my response: “Why did God put us on Earth, where there is pain and suffering, instead of putting us directly in heaven? Why would he put us through pain and suffering just so He could find out who his true followers are? We can either choose to love him and follow him and go to heaven, or we can choose to not love him and not follow him and go to hell. I understand the concept of ‘freedom of choice,’ but why would he give us that freedom purely out of his own selfish desire to find out who his true followers are, or who is willing to glorify him while they are on Earth? If God is all-knowing, why not just take everyone who is good and put them directly into heaven in the first place, rather than putting them through pain and suffering on Earth before they get to go to heaven?”

Here’s our response according to Christian values and beliefs:

Dear (name),

You are not alone in asking this question and in feeling the way you do. It’s a very good question, one that needs to be answered. So here it is. Continue reading Why Does God Allow Pain and Suffering?

God is like the Sun is to the Moon

God is like the Sun is to the Moon shining onto the Earth

God is like the Sun burning bright and full of limitless power. That light and power radiates out in all directions.

The moon is like Christ. The moon itself has no light. But when in the presence of the Sun, light reflects off of it onto the Earth.

From the Earth it looks like the moon is producing light but what it really is doing is reflecting light from the Sun. And it’s just a small fraction of the total output of light from the sun. But it can light the entire facing surface of the earth! When that “moon light” shines on you, your gift of holy spirit is like a mirror to that light so you can reflect it. So the more manifestations of the gift that you use the bigger the mirror becomes. Then with a bigger mirror the more you reflect.

It is our job to reflect the light of Christ that is a reflection of the light from God. Do we give the moon glory because it reflects the light of the Sun? No. We give the sun glory for lighting up the moon to then shine down on us.

That’s the way it works.

Fruits of the Spirit Bible Study Galatians 5:22

Fruit of the Spirit is a metaphor.

Fruits of the Spirit Bible Study Galatians 5:22

“Fruits” of the Spirit is a metaphor that sums up the nine visible attributes of living a Christian lifestyle according to the Holy Spirit. Technically “fruits” plural should be called “fruit” singular. Because The Gift of Holy Spirit is like a tree that bears spiritual fruit in your life. So when you plant it in your heart, it takes root. When you nurture it, it grows and bear fruit. It bears one fruit of the spirit, not many “fruits”. It’s like a grape vine (singular) that grows many grapes (plural).

Jesus said in Matthew 7:20 “Wherefore by their fruit you shall know them.” What kind of fruit are you growing? Let’s look at each attribute of the fruit of the spirit a little more deeply. Below is a list of spiritual fruit that is the evidence of a good Christian lifestyle. Continue reading Fruits of the Spirit Bible Study Galatians 5:22
